First Aid at Work

The Course

 The First Aid at Work (Level 3) course is designed for workplaces that require trained first aiders to meet UK Health & Safety regulations or Individuals wishing to extend their First Aid knowledge.  


This three-day First Aid at Work training course prepares learners to confidently manage a wide range of medical emergencies, providing prompt, safe, and effective treatment until professional medical help arrives.   

Course Duration

The First Aid at Work course requires a minimum of 18 hours of training, normally delivered over three days.

Ideally, the course is completed across three consecutive days, however Expert Response   Training offers flexible scheduling to meet organisational needs.

Training can be delivered across multiple sessions provided that:  

  • The course is completed within 10 weeks of starting  
  • Each training session lasts a minimum of two hours   

What You Will Learn

 

Our First Aid at Work syllabus covers a wide range of emergency scenarios and workplace injuries, including:  

  • First aider roles, responsibilities, and legal considerations 
  • Assessing emergency situations safely  
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty 
  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)  
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator) awareness and use
  • Control of Catastrophic bleeding and wound management  
  • Recognising and treating shock, including anaphylaxis  
  • Responding to heart attacks  
  • Managing head injuries  
  • Fractures and spinal injuries  
  • Sprains and strains  
  • Bandaging techniques  
  • Managing choking emergencies  
  • Eye injuries  
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds  
  • Poisoning  
  • Managing medical conditions including:  
    • Asthma  
    • Diabetes  
    • Stroke  
    • Seizures  


The course places a strong emphasis on hands-on practical training, helping learners develop the confidence to respond effectively in real emergency situations.   

Assessment & Certification

 Learners are assessed continuously throughout the course through practical demonstrations and instructor observation and questioning. 


A written assessment is also completed as part of the training.  


Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work, which is valid for three years.   

Course Requirements

  • Maximum class size: 12 learners
  • Minimum age: 14 years 


 Learners under the age of 16 cannot take responsibility for First Aid duties in the workplace. Employers must ensure that designated first aiders are suitable for their role.  


Certificates remain valid for 3 years from date shown on the certificate.
